Mentorship

2010-2011 Monte Jade Executive Mentorship Program: Mentoring for Career Advancement

Starts in October 2010

Asian-Americans represent one of the fastest growing segments of the professional workforce in the US. While many have found success with high-paying professional positions, as a group, Asian-Americans often remain under-represented in the corporate boardroom and senior management ranks.

The Monte Jade Executive Mentorship program is the first of its kind program in the Silicon Valley targeted towards supporting Asian-American professionals to advance into executive and leadership positions. It does so by helping participants:

  • Build personal relationships with some of the most accomplished Asian American leaders in Silicon Valley.
  • Learn from the successes of other Asian Americans in a wide range of industries, from venture capital, high-tech, to entrepreneurship.
  • Get coaching and practical advice that could make an immediate impact.

A primary differentiator of the MJAA Executive Mentorship Program is the multiple opportunities participants have to learn from executive mentors, discuss career development topics within small group settings, and broaden their networks.

Each participant is assigned to a mentor who is a leader in the business community and participates in several activities over a six-month period. Each year we line up an exceptional list of mentors, which has included:

  • Ms. Carol Wong Carpenter, Executive General Manager at Trend Micro
  • Mr. Nelson Chan, Former CEO at Magellan
  • Mr. Peter Chu, Managing Partner at AsiaTech Ventures and COO of ApaceWave
  • Mr. Buck Gee, Former GM & VP of Marketing at Cisco
  • Dr. Arthur Lin, Head of Communications Technology at Apple
  • Ms. Wanda Ma, VP of IT at Bare Escentuals, Former CIO at GAP
  • Dr. Elizabeth Xu, SVP at Vitria Technology
  • Mr. Ron Yu, VP of Marketing at Kapow Technology
  • Mr. Eric Yuan, VP of Engineering at Cisco
