MJAA Asia Trip 2010 Third Information Session

We will be visiting Shanghai and Chengdu in a one-week program packed with visits to a variety of government agencies and companies in Internet, software, telecommunication, semiconductor, computer, manufacturing, venture capital, banking, law, and education. In the evenings, you will be free to experience the local nightlife with your fellow trip members.

As a side bonus, this year's trip will end in Shanghai just before the start of the 2010 World Expo: "Better City, Better Life". The World Exposition has never before been held in a developing country, so this will be a fantastic opportunity to attend this seminal world event and learn more about the future possibilities for the world's cities.

MJAA Asia Trip 2010 First Information Session

You are cordially invited by the Monte Jade Asian American Chapter (MJAA) to the Asia Trip 2010 Open House. MJAA is hosting the first information session for its 16th annual Asia Business and Technology Tour. Started in 1995, it's a one-week program designed for young professionals to gain a greater understanding of high tech, financial, and other industries of particular regions in Asia, such as China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, etc. Over the past 15 years, MJAA delegations have visited top companies in the area of Internet, software, telecommunication, semiconductor, computer, manufacturing, venture capital, banking, law, education, and government agencies in Asia. In 2010, MJAA will send its high tech delegation to Chengdu and Shanghai. Chengdu is becoming the favorite city for investment in central and western China. Among the World's 500 largest companies, 133 multinational enterprises have had subsidiaries or branch offices in Chengdu by October 2009. These MNEs include Intel, Sony, and Toyota that have assembly and manufacturing bases, as well as Motorola, Ericsson, and Microsoft that have R&D centers in Chengdu.

Shanghai is the largest center of commerce and finance in China, and has been described as the "showpiece" of the world's fastest-growing major economy. Next year, Shanghai will host the 2010 World Trade Expo, making China the first developing nation to host a large, registered World Exposition.

The trip participants from a variety of professions will visit selected companies and governmental agencies in order to explore various business opportunities in China.

MJAA Social Event: Go Kart Racing!

What:ShareAfter our last successful indoor skydiving event, MJAA will now try to feed your "need for speed" with Go-Karting at LeMans Karting Center (http://www.lemanskarting.com/). There will be a practice session followed by a qualifying race and a main race (30 minute race all together).

Sign-in at 2:00pm-2:30pm. Event starts at 2:30. There will be paper work that will need to be filled out for new drivers.

MJAA Career Development Series: Speed Networking

What:ShareLast June, MJAA held the successful Career Development Event, The Power of Effective Professional Networking. This event drew a diverse crowd of over 100 participants, hailing from various Fortune 500 companies and specializing in areas such as engineering, finance, law, and venture capitalism. As a follow-up, MJAA presents its latest professional networking event in its Career Development Series, Speed Networking: Exercising Effective Professional Networking.

In this guided exploration of the elevator pitch, participants will learn to quickly and intelligently present themselves in a structured, one-on- one environment. Participants will be presented a fast and effective way to establish contacts with other like-minded individuals, and will learn to quickly discover and establish mutual interests.

Speed networking is a structured meeting process with the purpose of assisting people in meeting many new contacts in a short period of time. In total, each one-on-one interaction will be limited to about five minutes. Therefore, it is highly recommended that attendees bring plenty of business cards and jot notes during the event.

Career Development Series: The Power of Effective Professional Networking

Community Service Event at the Tech Challenge

What:ShareMJAA will be volunteering at the Tech Challenge 2009 at the Tech Museum of Innovation in San Jose. Tech Challenge is an annual team design challenge for youth in grades 5 through 12. The theme for this year is "Explore the Volcano!" where the teams need to design and build a solution to move sensor packages (ping-pong balls) up a model volcano.

As volunteers, we can help by being judges or by doing a variety of other tasks. The plan is to do the morning shift, and possibly go to lunch afterward.

Social Event: Hiking at Rancho San Antonio

What:ShareTired of the life in cities? Haven’t exercised in a while? Come join us for a hike at Rancho San Antonio on a beautiful Saturday morning! The popular route Wildcat Loop Trail (3 miles) is perfect for hikers and joggers. The trail follows a creek into a cool, fern-walled narrow canyon, ascends through chaparral to open meadows on the middle ridge, and loops back to Deer Hollow Farm. Lupine, poppies, and patches of blue-eyed grass bloom in the meadow in spring. You can enjoy spectacular views of Mt. Tamalpais to the north and Mt. Hamilton to the east.

So, eat your breakfast and come join us at Rancho San Antonio. After the hike, we can all go gain our calories back by having lunch together! There’s nothing taste better after a long walk in the mountain. Due to limited parking spaces on a late weekend morning, we will meet at Acron Campus’ parking lot and carpool to the site. We’ll take off at exactly 9:30am sharp, so make sure you don’t get left behind! Oh by the way, ladies should remember to wear a hat, and gentlemen should bring some water and share. =)
